The idea…

Some time back at the start of 2007 we came up with the ‘bright idea’ of getting away from everything in London for a bit and doing something unforgettable. At about this time we also decided to buy bikes and you can probably work out what happened after that.

So, in February 2008 we’ll be setting off (with our bikes) for Punta Arenas in southern Patagonia to start our self-supported adventure up the Andes to Peru.

The route…

We’ll be travelling up through Patagonian Chile along the infamous Carretera Austral (Southern Highway) – a thousand kilometre ‘road’ through the wettest, greenest, wildest and narrowest part of Chile. Then crossing the Andes into Argentina and heading north to the Bolivian border. Here we’ll hopefully start to head north west towards the capital of La Paz and on into Peru for the final fling past Lake Titicaca and on towards Machu Picchu.

We don’t know how long it’s all going to take at the moment but if our calculations are correct it’s about 4,500 miles (only 2,845miles as the crow flies). No doubt time will tell but we’ll try and keep you posted every step of the way (or at least when we find the next internet café).

Feel free to drop us a line too using the ‘guestbook’ page – we’d love to know what you’re up to as well.
